Law Enforcement Requirements are set by:
N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
1. GENERAL APPLICATION:
1. Applicants will initially fill out a standard application for employment form.
2. This form will be one used by the Town of Troy for all general employment positions.
3. Must be a minimum of 20 years of age and of good moral character for police employment.
2. PRELIMINARY INTERVIEW:
1. Once the process has
begun to find an employee, all current applicant's will have a preliminary
interview,
with the Chief of Police or his designee.
2. The purpose of this interview
is to determine if the applicant is eligible for employment by
Federal,
State and Local Standards. Must have successfully completed N.C. Basic
Law
Enforcement
Training. (BLET)
3. During this interview the employment process will be explained to each applicant.
3. PERSONAL HISTORY FORM (F-3)
1. F-3 FORM SHOULD BE COMPLETED IN ENTIRETY AND NOTARIZED.
4. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION; (F-8)
1. The Chief
of Police or his designee will perform a through background investigation
of each
applicant, to determine if the applicant is a suitable candidate for employment.
2. Written Report required: (F-8)
5. CRIMINAL HISTORY INVESTIGATION:
1. Check the records in clerk of courts, both civil and criminal.
2. Fingerprint cards (2) (Applicant) Submitted to North Carolina SBI.
3. NCIC check
6. WRITTEN TEST;
1. Each applicant will take a written exam.
2. Questions on the exam will be from North Carolina B.L.E.T Course.
3. This will be used to evaluate the applicant's general knowledge of police related subject matters.
7. PHYSICAL AGILITY TEST;
1. Each police applicant
will be required to perform special physical agility test to determine
their
suitability
to perform the functions of a law enforcement officer.
8. ORAL REVIEW BOARD: (F-4)
1. All applicants
who reach this level of the process will be offered the opportunity to
go before
an oral review board. This review board may consist of both
civilian and law enforcement
personnel.
2. The purpose to
this interview is to view each applicant in a public speaking arena and
to
see how he conducts himself in a stressful situations.
3. The Review Board will make recommendations to the Chief of Police.
9. DRUG TEST:
1. Applicant will submit to Drug test in compliance with Training and Standard specifications.
2. Positive Test results will end employment process.
10. OFFER OF CONDITIONAL EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT:
11. MEDICAL EXAMINATION BY DR. (F-2)
12. PERSONAL MEDICAL INFORMATION (F-1)
13. OTHER ASSESSMENTS:
1. Psychological Test: ( Mandatory effective 01-01-95 )
2. Firearms Qualification: (F-9) (Department approved weapon mandatory)
3. Polygraph Test:
14. POST EMPLOYMENT
1. Successful completion
of Field Training Program and Probationary Period of
(
1) one year.
