The husband of one of our site visitors, Rachel Unkefer from Virginia, is the g-g-g-grandson of Helena LEISER and Emanuel GOLDSCHMIDT of Birkenfeld, Germany, which is near the French border and was annexed by France during the Napoleonic era. She has a great deal of information on the GOLDSCHMIDT descendants, but until recently knew nothing about the LEISERs except that Helena's father was listed in the Familienbuch Birkenfeld (by Rudi Jung) as Josef Samuel LEISER and that she was born around 1763 and died 19 Nov 1829. Helena and Emanuel lived in Birkenfeld after their marriage and named their first son Leiser GOLDSCHMIDT. The family was Jewish.
Recently, Rachel made a great discovery, which you can read about in
another potted history, about the Descendants of
Sender LEYSER. Rachel believes that the Hendel LEISER mentioned there
is the Helena LEISER in this history, who married Emanuel GOLDSCHMIDT (AKA
Gronum/Cronum MENDEL). Yet to be resolved is why Rudi Jung gives Helena's
father as Josef SAMUEL, while the recently discovered article gives Hendel's
father's name as Leyser SENDER (see the link above for an explanation of
patronymics).
