The text below is an abstract of the article. It deals only with families originating in the small town of Hoppstaedten, which is near Birkenfeld, which was sometimes part of France and other times part of the Principality of Oldenburg. If you have a German map, you can find it just east of Trier, on the Nahe River.

Lewin was a religion teacher in Hoppstaedten during the 1920s. As an example for Jewish gnealogical research he produces the family history of Sender Lazarus.

Lazarus (Leyser), b. abt. 1660 (in Hoppstaedten?), died before ca. 1712

Sender (Alexander, Zander, or Sander) Lazarus was born in Hoppstaedten in ca. 1692 & died there in 1756. He was married to Sara. He possessed a house in Hoppstaedten.

- Schlaumen (Salomo) Sender, b. abt. 1715

- Sender Schlaumen = Alexander STERN senior (1762-1821), m. Mirjam Isaac from Nahbollenbach near Oberstein

Leiser & Sender Schlaumen adopted the family name STERN on Oct 19, 1808.

 Meier Isaak KRONENBERGER came from Windesheim near Bad Kreuznach to Hoppstaedten. He named his son after his wife Deile Leyser's father, Leiser Meier Kronenberger. Leiser Kronenberger was married to a woman from the family WEIL. They had a ten or eleven children - one of them emigrated to the USA (his son Louis Kronberger was an author), another was Samuel (Sanwel) Kronenberger (b. ca. 1848) who married Male (Amalie) WEILER from Steinbach am Glan. They had four sons, among them Lazarus Kronenberger who became a banker in Mainz & Aron Kronberger, cattle dealer in Hoppstaedten, who was married to ...
