Introduction
This Web Quest
was designed for High School Biology student’s grade 9-12 as an alternative
to Laboratory Frog Dissection. Modifications could be made for grades
7-12 Middle School students.
The Task
Students will down load and print frog dissection instructions and worksheets containing drawings, graphs, and questions to complete.
Students will use various online Frog Dissection sites to complete frog dissection without all the mess!
Students will go to online dissection sites where they will explore dissection techniques, practice frog dissection and take online quizzes
Students will keep detailed drawings and complete frog worksheet on frog systems, organs, and processes keeping notes and drawings in their Science Journal / Notebooks. Journals, worksheet, and drawings will be graded by a Rubric for a grade.
Students will research frogs, frog habitats and frog life cycles online.
Students in Cooperative Learning groups or individually will prepare a class Presentation (a teacher approved frog topic) to be given in front of peers. Grades will be from Frog Presentation Rubric.
Students will then take several online quizzes and take an online review. After a teacher review, students will take a teacher designed Test on Frogs & Frog Dissection.

Activity One
♦ Step 1- After booting up your computer and logging on; go to a teacher approved search engine.
♦ Step 2- Type in The Biology Corner at http://www.biologycorner.com/index.
♦ Step 3- Click on each of the different Frog dissection bars and print out each Frog Dissection Instruction worksheet.
(Remember one copy per group unless permission given!)
Your teacher might run off extra copies for other groups and group members later.
These instructions are for you and your partner or Cooperative Learning group to use as a guide for dissecting frogs. (Do not loose them!)
♦ Step 4- Using the mouse click the back key (left top of your screen) until you return to your search engine browser. Now type in Net Frog and enter. (It should take you to Net Frog the online Dissection at http://curry.edschool.virginia.edu/go/frog/
♦ Step 5- Here you will click the Begin Dissection to start your Online Frog Dissection Adventure.
Activity Two
♦ Step 1- After you have used Net Frog for 2 days to research and practice dissection of frogs. Use the printed out worksheets from “The Biology Corner” to answer your dissection questions on frog anatomy systems. Next label, draw, and color the pictures/diagrams of a frog.
♦ Step 2- Take the Net Frog Quiz and record your answers in your group or individual Science Journal. In your Journal please remember to note: Title, group members, the date, and Web Sites used
Journal Requirements: Have a section for each system of the frog: Digestive, Nervous, Circulatory, Respiratory, Skeletal, Muscular, and Reproductive. Each Section should have clearly labeled pictures, sketched by hand (use similar colors as the on line dissection). Give clear descriptions of frog systems and functions of the organs.
Activity Three
♦ Step 1- Go to a new Web site: Virtual Frog Dissection Kit at http://www-itg.lbl.gov/ITG.hm.pg.docs/dissect/info.html
♦ Step 2- Click on Fluffy the frog (picture) to begin digital dissection.
♦ Step 3- Play the Virtual Frog Builder Game. (On the same page as Fluffy) Use the hints button if you need hints.
♦ Step 4- Return to the “The Biology Corner” at http://www.biologycorner.com/index . Scroll down to Frog Dissection Review click The Ultimate Frog Anatomy Review should appear.
♦ Step 5- Do the review chart activity.
♦ Step 6-Take the practice test as a group activity recording questions and answers in individual Journals.
Teachers:
♦ Do the WebQuest yourself before making student assignments. This way you have foreknowledge of problem pages and links.
♦ Print 1 copy of each of the student worksheet pages and rubrics and keep them on file for quick copying for groups (and that one student who looses everything 5 times.)
♦ Don’t let the students remove the group Science Journal as it will be lost and never returned or seen again! Students should take their own personal Science Journal home to do individual work on home computers.
♦ Put no disk from a student in your own teacher’s computer or shared School system wide computer unless protected highly from viruses.
S Students:
♦ Get a three ring Binder just for Science.
♦ Get a three ring binder for group work. (Keep it in the classroom!)
♦ Use a hole punch to keep work neatly in the three ring binder.
♦ Save work online frequently and learn to backup work to the hard drive, (if permitted) a file, a disk or thumb nail device.
♦ Ask you teacher for Help before you get too far behind or mess the computer up.. Don’t sit lost ask!
♦ Write your name, date, and class period on all work.
♦ Be neat and keep good records, drawings, and worksheets for the group and for your selves.
♦ Keep up daily with assignments as they pile up and get beyond ones control fast.
♦ Help students that are not as organized and neat as you are to work on these skills, especially if you are in their group. It will help you get a better grade and possibly make you a nicer person.
Conclusion
Final Activity
♦ Step 1- Turn in all individual / group Science Journals with assignments completed (properly) in 2 and 1/2 weeks when asked.
♦ Step 2- Turn in the Frog worksheets and label assignments from “The Biology Corner” in 10 days.
♦ Step 4- During (unique) group and individual presentations made on approved Frog Topics, students will use a class Presentation Rubric to evaluate their peers.
♦ Step 5- After much student review and teacher review, students will take a teacher designed test on Frogs and Frog systems, organs and dissection techniques.
